Volunteers Brederode Castle

Volunteers are very important for Brederode Castle. Without them, the ruin cannot remain open to the public.

For season 2019 we are looking for:

Volunteers for the weekend

For the weekends we are still looking for enthusiastic people to keep the ruin open for visitors. The shifts in the weekend are from 10.30 to 14.00 hours (morning shift) and from 13.45 to 17.30 hours (afternoon shift).
Activities during a shift:

  • Reception of visitors to the castle and ticket sales.
  • Sell coffee, tea, soft drinks, ice creams, chips and cake.
  • Giving information about the ruin.
  • Small maintenance activities, such as washing dishes, terrain cleanup/cleaning, emptying trash bins.
  • Helping with events.

If you have time available on Saturdays and/or Sundays, for example 2 shifts per month, and you woud like to help us, please sign up.

Young volunteers for the horeca

Brederode Castle is looking for young people from 13 to 17 years old who like to gain experience in the horeca at the weekend. You wil get paid a volunteer compensation for young people. The work is selling coffee, tea, soft drinks, ice creams, chips and cakes. The shifts are between 11.00 and 17.00 hours. The shifts will be discussed with you. They will be dependent on your age and in accordance with the working time law for young people.

Volunteers for ‘ ruin inhabited ‘

The ruin of Brederode seeks volunteers who want to participate once a month on a Saturday and/or Sunday as ‘ medieval dweller of the Ruin ‘. In medieval clothing you will welcome the guests , help with horeca activities and be present on the forecourt, in the tea garden or on the castle, with a chat and/or an activity, for example handicrafts or gardening.
The weekends ‘ ruin inhabited ‘ in 2019 are I.P. planned for: 23 and 24 March, 13 and 14 April, 25 and 26 May, 15 and 16 June, 20 and 21 July, 10 and 11 August, 21 and 22 September and 26 and 27 October.

Tour guides

Brederode Castle is looking for people who like to guide groups around the castle. The (requested) tours can be given on all days of the week. They are scheduled in consultation with the other tour guides We are looking for enthusiastic people who are interested in the history of the ruin. During the working period you will get all the knowledge you need to be a tour guide. You are cordial and friendly, can handle people well and you can tell fascinating. Other volunteers

In addition of the tasks listed on this page we are looking for volunteers for the following necessary activities:

  • Helping with birthday parties
  • Supporting of requested visits (e.g. photoshoot).
  • Small maintenance in the gardens.
  • Small maintenance of furniture, building, bridges and fencing.
  • Preparing events and/or exhibitions.
  • Contribute to website and social media.
  • Collection of digital history material about Brederode and its former inhabitants.
  • Collect publications about Brederode or publish articles about Brederode.

General information

Knowledge of foreign languages, especially English and/or German, is an advantage.
Working in historical clothing is not allowed, except for ‘ ruin inhabited ‘. The work is voluntary, but not without obligation: we expect that if you to be at the castle on the days you are scheduled.

What do you get in return?

You help to keep open to the public one of the first national monuments in the Netherlands with important footprints in the patriotic history. You work with a nice team of volunteers in a beautiful historical place. A few times a year a historically tinted outing and/or a fun gathering, for example a medieval BBQ.
