Volunteers Brederode Castle

Volunteers are very important for Brederode Castle. Without them, the castle cannot remain open to the public. Right now we have enough volunteers working for the castle. For next year we are looking for:

Hosts and hostesses

We expect a volunteer to be present on average 1 day a month or 2 half days a month. Of course, more presence is very welcome.
Activities during the service of host or hostess are:

  • Welcoming visitors from home and abroad.
  • Checking e-tickets
  • Small catering and (limited) sale of books and toys, among other things
  • Giving information about Brederode Castle.
  • Common small work, such as washing dishes, prepare games and dress ups for children and keeping clean.
  • Events assistance.

If you like it, sign up!

Preferably not, but the services can possibly be split into a morning shift from 10.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and an afternoon shift from 1:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Young volunteers for the teagarden

You will work on Saturdays or Sundays and will get a volunteer fee for young people. The work is checking entrance tickets, selling coffee, tea, soft drinks, ice creams, chips and cake, dishwashing. The shifts are between 10.45 am and 5.15 pm. The working hours depend on your age and in accordance with the Dutch Labour Act for young people. Does this sound good? Then sign up here.

Volunteers for ‘Living History Weekends’

Brederode Castle is looking for volunteers who want to be ‘medieval dweller’ once a month on a Saturday and/or Sunday. In medieval clothing you will receive visitors, assist the catering in the teagarden and you are present in different places at the castle. On the outer bailey, in the tea garden or on the inner bayley. With a chat and/or deed, for example handicrafts or gardening. The Living History weekends in 2021 are planned at 26 & 27 June, 24 & 25 July, 28 & 29 August, 25 & 26 September and 30 & 31 October.
Do you want to be a part of it? Then sign up here.

Living History

Tour guides

Brederode Castle is looking for tour guides. Every Saturday and Sunday a guided tour is given at 2 pm. In addition, tours can be given on request on all days of the week. In consultation with the tour guides, they are scheduled. We ask for enthusiastic people who are interested in the history of Brederode Castle. During the introduction period you will get all the knowledge you need to be a tour guide. You can tell fascinatingly and deal well with people. Do you recognize yourself in this? Then sign up here.

General information

Knowledge of languages, especially Dutch, English and/or German, is an advantage.
Although we appreciate it, but working in historical clothing is not obliged, except for ‘Living History Weekends’. The work is voluntary, but not without obligation.

What do you get in return?

You help to keep one of the first Dutch national monuments, with important footprints in Dutch history, open to the public. You work with a nice team of volunteers in a beautiful historical place. A few times a year a historically tinted outing and/or a fun gathering, for example a medieval BBQ.
